Jobs at Lawyer's Aid Service

Interesting work for beginning and experienced workers
Lawyer's Aid Service, Inc., opened in 1980 and has grown every year since then. It is a small, stable company that has never had a layoff. Of the current 20-person staff, about one-third are part-time.

One convenient, central location close to UT
The Lawyer's Aid office is located four blocks south of UT at 408 West 17th Street, between Guadalupe and San Antonio. (UT students who work here find it pretty easy to park at work, walk to class, and walk back to work.) There's a city bus stop nearby, too. See map.

Good pay
Pay is $11.00 an hour for part-time or internship and $12.00-12.50 per hour for full-time, long-term (i.e., full-time longer than 9 months). For IT positions, pay is dependent on experience; please specify pay requirements on your application.

Flexible schedules
An important Lawyer's Aid benefit is flexibility in scheduling. You have the option to request a switch between full-time and part-time and to request a change in your schedule if part-time, preferably before preregistration each school semester.

Other benefits
For those who work full-time, medical and life insurance are provided. The coverage is a preferred-provider plan (PPO). There's a large on-site kitchen for your use. Ties and pantyhose are not required, just neat casual attire.

The work that you'll do
Those who succeed best at Lawyer's Aid work enjoy detail work, helping people over the phone, solving people's problems, and being accurate.

Lawyer's Aid Service is in the business of helping out-of-town attorneys and their staffs retrieve and file legal documents at many state agencies and courts in Austin. We help incorporate thousands of new corporations each year and produce customized books called corporate outfits.

In the core office position that nearly every staff member learns, you'll fax, photocopy, file, and, most important, take orders from attorney clients who call in. No sales work is involved. You'll learn a lot through the Lawyer's Aid office systems designed to train and support you and through cross-training in several jobs.

Our workplace is a floor of ten offices with windows. Telephones ring frequently. The staff carries out 100+ orders a day. Dress is business casual. The atmosphere is positive and collaborative. The best things about working at Lawyer's Aid, according to staff members.

In particular, if you're a person who wants a career in the administrative paralegal area or who simply loves medium- to fast-paced office work, we'd definitely like to see your application. As a growing company, we're hiring for a variety of positions.

Hours of operation
A regular work week of at least 18 to 40 hours is preferred, scheduled within the hours we operate, 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Monday–Friday. Part–time schedules are between 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
