Positions available at Lawyer's Aid Service
Hourly starting pay is $11.00-$12.00 for part-time or internship and
$12.00-$13.00 for full-time long-term (i.e., full-time longer than 9
months). For computer positions, pay is
dependent on experience; please specify pay requirements on your application.
Schedule can be 18-40 hours a week except where noted. Part-time scheduling
is between 9:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
Paralegal clerk trainee
As a paralegal clerk trainee, you will create legal form documents using FileMaker Pro
and MS Word on a Mac and answer questions and fulfill orders from clients. You will also
carry documents between our offices and state agencies primarily in the downtown area.
Most documents deal with corporate filings, such as incorporations, certified copies,
amendments, UCC filings, and name reservations. You will also help clients obtain driving
records, notary certificates, birth and death certificates, and court records, as well as
perform a variety of office tasks, such as faxing, photocopying, proofing, and filing. The
job requires that you touch-type 30+ words a minute. Office or paralegal experience is a plus
but not required. Schedule: 18 to 40 hours a week. Part-time schedules are between 9:00 a.m.
and 5:30 p.m.
Mac systems administrator trainee / relational database developer
In this job, you'll be be part of a small team supporting about 30 OS X Macs and Macintosh
servers (firewalls, and web, mail, and database servers) and four PCs at two main sites near UT.
As well, you'll develop business solutions and documentation in a relational database, Filemaker
Pro. This position can be part-time or full-time. Knowledge of database design (FileMaker Pro or
others, such as from UT database classes) is preferred but not required. You'll likely be
working with and learning from a FileMaker guru.
The company emphasizes wiki-style IT documentation, training, and project management. Based on
your skills, you're likely also to work on security, trouble-shooting for users, expansion of
our website, and maintenance. It's helpful if you have experience in any of the following: OS X
and OS X Server, database design, HTML, dynamic websites, scripting languages (such as PHP,
Ruby, JavaScript), programming languages (such as Java), project management, technical writing,
and security. Scheduling is between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., and this position is
on-call after hours (rare incidents).
Legal administrative assistant
In this position, you'll assist with clerical, documentation, and secretarial tasks in a
two-attorney home office associated with Lawyer's Aid Service that is located 1.5 blocks
from UT. The law practice involves probate, tax, real estate, oil and gas, and other civil
matters. Other projects include health care and medical insurance issues. Hours are flexible within 20 to 40 hours a week. Employer reacts to fragrance
products, so it's required to be fragrance free. Touch-typing and experience in general
office work are preferred. It's a plus if you have law office experience or a background in the medical field.
